EAGLE EXTENSION POLICY AS WE WELCOME GIRLS TO THE SCOUTS BSA FAMILY

WHAT is the policy -

Females AND Males joining Scouts BSA on Feb 1, 2019 or later, can apply for an extension deadline of 24 months from their date of registration? (i. e. Feb 1, 2019 becomes Feb 1, 2021)
They are eligible to continue working towards the rank of Eagle Scout EVEN if they turn 18 years old within that 24-month period.
24 months is the minimum required 19 months to earn the rank, plus a little extra time.

HOW do they apply for this?
Youth must talk to their Unit Leaders to request the extension. The leader then accesses the Youth’s profile on my.scouting
If the Scout is eligible for the extension, there will be a button the leader can select which will indicate the Youth has requested an extension. This extension is to be applied for WITHIN thirty days of the Youth turning 18.
This request automatically goes to National. Once approved, the Youth, their parent, their Unit leader and Council representative, will all receive an email to confirm the extension. It will also list the new Expiration date for the Youth based on their registration date.

IMPORTANT THINGS -
-The Request for an extension can be applied for NO LATER than 30 days after turning 18
-ONLY National can grant extensions (not Council, not District, not Unit)
-No exceptions to, or waivers of any of the REQUIREMENTS of the Eagle Scout rank will be permitted in conjunction with an extension.
-All requirements must be completed while the individual is a REGISTERED member of the BSA Scouts, or after achieving the First Class Rank in Scouts BSA and moving to a Venturing Crew or Sea Scout Ship.
-The requirements for Eagle Scout are not changing, and will be the same for males and females.
-These are temporary transition rules and will NOT be available to any Youth who is under 16 years of age on Feb 1st 2019
-An Inaugural Class of Female Eagle Scouts will be celebrated in the fall of 2020. National will not celebrate or name the First female Eagle Scout.
